About Our Homes

Let's talk about what a standard home looks like from C&B Construction, but let's set the pretty things like tile and hardwood aside for a minute and talk about the bones and layout of your new home.  You can find a more comprehensive breakdown of our standard inclusions available for download below.

When we build a new home for someone, we always ask ourselves, "would we be happy with this product, design, etc. in our own home?"  We won't try to sell you on a product or service that we wouldn't be willing to put in our own home.  We use this same logic when beginning the preliminary design stage.

While designing, we are constantly thinking of common occurrences in everyday life.  Things like the path from the garage to the pantry when you have your arms loaded with groceries or what lights could be turned on at 3 AM when you need a glass of water.  We want every home to be beautiful and functional; a home that fits your lifestyle.

Another way that we embrace functionality is by eliminating posts in the basement, if possible.  For every home that we design that has a basement, whether it's finished right away or not, we design a plan for the basement.  While we do this primarily for the underground plumbing for a future bathroom, we also use this plan to see if we can coordinate floor joist support directly with the layout of the basement.

This is a basement from a recent custom home.  We were able to use an assortment of support walls in their design to allow for a large, open entertainment space.

One of the things that set us apart from some other builders is our use of an ICF foundation.  ICF stands for "insulated concrete form" and, basically, this is a system that provides you with your standard 8" thick foundation wall but there's 2-1/2" of foam insulation on the interior and exterior, providing you with R-23+ insulation in your basement.*

The fascinating part?  The system goes together like giant Lego's.  So it's a lot less stress on our bodies to not have to work with the large, traditional concrete forms.  And when we have to be in two places at once, this system can be installed by only one person.  But wait, there's more!  These foundation blocks have integrated fastening strips, which means that drywall attaches directly to the blocks themselves, eliminating the need for exterior framing and blanket insulation when the time comes to finish the basement.

You can check out our blog post about ICF foundations to learn a little more here.

Here are some more of our impressive features that are standard for every home we build:

  • advanced 2x6 exterior framing techniques on all above-ground walls

    • These techniques include insulated door and window headers, engineered trusses with energy heels, and wall studs framed with natural crowns facing in the same direction to eliminate wavy and uneven walls

  • 95% high-efficiency furnace

  • tankless water heater with a recirculating line

  • Pella 250 series vinyl casement windows

  • ample recessed LED lighting

  • Owens Corning Duration Storm shingles (class 4, impact-resistant)

  • 4' wide staircases (if applicable)

But the list doesn't stop there.  If you're interested in seeing a more detailed list of inclusions, please feel free to download our pdf below.

Please note that while most of our standard inclusions apply for every project we build, there can be a substantial increase in price depending on the style of your home.  Is your floorplan simple or complex?  Are there additional architectural features like different ceiling heights, a walkout basement, or extra garage bays?  Along with our pdf regarding our standard inclusions, there is an additional pdf that highlights some of the differences between a simple and complex home and why a more complex home could be more expensive.
